María Gabriela Rubio Hernández is a Colombian composer, playwright, stage director, sculptor and performer who focuses on electronics, acoustics, mixed composition, and interdisciplinary media.
Career & Awards
She has been selected as a guest performance artist at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival (SEAF) (2026), a fellowship recipient from the Goethe-Institut Colombia for the Darmstadt Summer Course (2025), a mentee for the Forecast 2025 International Mentorship Program with Elaine Mitchener, and was awarded the "New Music Commissioning Programme" by the British Council and Sound and Music UK.
Her works have been featured in numerous festivals and projects, including the Mosaik project by Calmus Ensemble Leipzig, MUSLAB, and the Iceland Noise Festival. Her piece "Literatura como fuente de Conocimiento" won the National Young Composers Competition of the Banco de la República (2024).
Education & Community
She has studied with renowned artists like Elaine Mitchener, Bergrún Snaebjördóttir, and Atli Ingólfsson, and participated in workshops on feedback with Nicolas Collins and sound poetry with Jaap Blonk.
She is a co-founder of the electronic/interdisciplinary ensemble KikiMuuu and a member of groups like Simbionte Ensemble and Vasto Ensemble. As a speaker, she has lectured at various universities and festivals on topics ranging from Mixed Music to Cabaret Theater.
